Peer Education
Vassar College enjoys a long and strong history of student involvement in health and wellness issues. Currently Vassar has seven distinct peer helping groups -- all of which are student run and operated.
The AIDS Education Committee educates Vassar and its surrounding community about HIV/AIDS related issues, including education in preventative measures, treatment, and possible cures as well as supporting programs which correspond with the Committee's goals.
CARES is a student run group dedicated to raising awareness about the subject of relationship violence and sexual abuse, and provides crisis service when needed.
Despite the connotations of the name, C.H.O.I.C.E. is politically and ideologically neutral. Its purpose is to provide various services to the Vassar Community regarding issues of sexual health.
The Eating Disorder Reachout Service (EDRS) is an educational resource for the Vassar community. Their focus is spreading awareness and knowledge of the causes and implications of eating disorders. They provide information, listening services, and open forums to the campus community.
Student Athlete Mentors (SAM's) is a program whereby older student athletes mentor younger student athletes.
Vassar College EMS was founded in 1982. Staffed by students who are certified New York State Emergency Medical Technicians, VC EMS provides emergency medical services to the campus community.
The Office of Health Education employs students as Wellness Peer Educators (WPEs). The WPEs work on campus-wide peer education initiatives such as blood drives, Sexpo, De-Stress Daze, Health Fairs, Housecalls and serve as Health Advisors to each residence house. Feel free to contact your Health Advisor directly to find out resources on campus or with any health related questions! We're here to help you make healthier decisions!
